luckily for Durham Keaton has taken on the mantle of 'only player to score runs up north' from Borthwick, or Durham may have been in a bit of strive. Assuming Woakes remains and Stokes returns, England will have a lot of all rounders
by dave6/28/2016 2:31:54 PM
@CountyChampionship, only if they score twice the amount runs, or take twice the amount of wickets, in half the amount of time. A definite difference between Divs for me now-a-days
by dave6/28/2016 2:33:24 PM
This winter they'll need as many spinners/"spinners" as they can get.
by StaggerBreaths6/28/2016 2:33:37 PM
Its interesting that we used to have the Div 1 Vs 2 debate a lot and it seems to have died maybe it is because with the increase in players moving county its hard to argue that here is a gap or if with the 'Bigger' Clubs with more fans being mostly in div 1 at the moment there are not as many fans to make the case for div 2

Any rumours around what Coles is supposed to have done? Looks positive that he's doing training on the pitch at lunch. We desperately need him back!
by Steven Box6/28/2016 2:34:02 PM
True, SB. Will Borthwick's inclusion result in Rashid not playing though, or will we have the never before (?) scenario of two leggies bowling in tandem for England?
by dave6/28/2016 2:35:29 PM
Fairly obvious gap for me Nick, would describe myself as both a fan of Middx. and Leics., and (in a freak turn of events) Leics. could potentially be top of Div. 2 this season. Says it all. There are of course exceptions, but in general I agree with Dave-oh: a second-division player needs Ramprakash-like performances to get his name on the national team sheet.
by StaggerBreaths6/28/2016 2:36:24 PM
No, I'm sure they'll take Rashid. As things are going, maybe over Moe. Which worries me: I still remember that first innings in the UAE, even if in the second he more than did the job.
by StaggerBreaths6/28/2016 2:37:24 PM
Borthwick will be being picked for his batting and like a lot of people were saying about Ansari when he was being touted to open in the UAE that it is a tough ask for someone to bowl 30 overs then bat in the top order so I would guess England will still need Rashid I guess they will drop a seamer Finn
by nickcricket6/28/2016 2:37:38 PM
Ansari had completely slipped my mind. I imagine that all four will make the trip and three will play, probably Rashid/Moe/no. 3.
by StaggerBreaths6/28/2016 2:38:24 PM
Will Gidman, for me, is the perfect example of the gap between divisions. Unstoppable with bat and ball for Glos and has now completely disappeared - does he still play cricket? I remember several journo's on this blog saying he would make the step up as well
by dave6/28/2016 2:39:06 PM
While Kerrigan's injury has come at an inopportune time, they probably still wouldn't have chosen him, and he's been the best spinner (in div. 1) from my limited perspective.
by StaggerBreaths6/28/2016 2:39:09 PM
Daryl Mitchell for me!
by StaggerBreaths6/28/2016 2:39:25 PM
Once touted as an obvious choice for Div. 1 opener, by a seething mass of Pear fans who all seem to have vanished this season.

A double coming up for Gubbins ...
by Yaacov6/28/2016 2:41:04 PM
No one going to go for the left field Jennings?
by Mark Ofield6/28/2016 2:41:15 PM
Not as a spinner Mark no. :P
by StaggerBreaths6/28/2016 2:41:41 PM
@Yaacov You mean a Gubble.
by StaggerBreaths6/28/2016 2:42:06 PM
i can see England going with Ansari, moe and then relying on Borthwick's spin so they have the 'holly trinty' of spin: an Offie, a slow lefty and a leggie.
