Bates won Hants the 20/20 final one year with an amazing stumping. But, Hanst favored Wheather for his batting and irony of ironies have now dropped Wheater because he, wait for it, isn;t good enough 'keeper!

they could do, Nick, though i note both Alsop and McManus are 'keepers. i fear a true gem of a 'keeper has been lost forever. And going back to Mark's earlier post, i do also think Somerset should have kept him. A shame the combined efforts of Cooper and Allenby made Maynard think we needed to strengthen the batting of 6 - 11 opposed to 1 - 6
by dave6/28/2016 3:24:22 PM
It does depend where you bowling in a t20 comes from I guess. For example when Moen was opening he was also bowling four overs so a specialist keeper could have occupied a bowlers slot. I suspect Dave the less said about some of Maynards decisions the better

Haystack - I think they do feel that if they play their best they can chase anything, Although it wasn't a game that will stick in the memory I think the second ODI Vs SL was a good step for England. Hales and Roy played smart cricket not fearless they could have tired to chance that total all guns blazing but they didn't the knocked it around at the asking rate until Sri Lanka had given up. It was the sort of chase that Bell and Cook would have loved but Hales and Roy can also get 27 off an over

That Lords pitch is a disgrace. I moan about this every year (and almost every game week too), it is shambolic that teams can be allowed to produce a wicket like this on such a regular basis.

Mark Ofield - Moeen is a good example of why the guys outside the 'Names on the teamsheet' players don't like being rested. He was opening and doing as well as anyone but Roy came in while he missed the ODIs Vs NZ and made an impression
by nickcricket6/28/2016 3:34:14 PM
May as well call the match off there, nothing else to play for.

Nick, you do have to feel for Moeen he has been shunted about all over the place
by Mark Ofield6/28/2016 3:35:43 PM
@StaggerBreaths same in test matches too, saw a stat during the SL game which suggested just above 60% of Lords test matches over a certain time period, can't remember what time period like, had ended in a draw. All about the ticket money or down to something else???
by Joe T Williams6/28/2016 3:36:10 PM
@MarkOfield True, can't be easy being shunted around, but equally he's not really nailed down any position thus far, has never made himself indispencible yet
by Joe T Williams6/28/2016 3:37:03 PM
Probably the money.
by StaggerBreaths6/28/2016 3:38:15 PM
I thought he had done enough as ODI opener and test 8 - although he should have been moved up the order in test matches much earlier before his batting went off
