David Hopps at Somerset 228-5 v Yorkshire 145
Ryan Sidebottom is delivering his second committed spell of the day and it has accounted for Peter Trego. Both Sidebottom and Liam Plunkett kept Trego honest after lunch before Sidebottom made one lift around off stump and Trego edged to the wicketkeeper.
We have been listening to Dave Fulton, from Sky, explaining why it might be better for Yorkshire to lose this match rather than draw it. It all made sense but up here it will be dismissed as Soft Southern Thinking and Yorkshire will set jaws against.
Imagine the team talk that Andrew Gale would have to make. "I'll back our lads to bat just as badly a second time" etc.
Fulton has just translated his view as "Gamble on a win and be prepared to lose."
It makes total sense. If Middlesex face Yorkshire in the last match at Lord's with, say, a 4-point advantage and Somerset out of the hunt then a draw pitch could beckon (Lord's groundsman Mick Hunt being agreeable of course because he can be a contrary soul...)
Better for Yorkshire that they trail by, say, 9 but Somerset are in the hunt - making Middlesex lobby for a result pitch.
All grist to the mill.
