Tim Wigmore at Surrey 119-0 v Lancashire
Hoppsy, rather kindly, has flattered my professionalism: I haven’t had a couple of tube stops to brave to get to The Oval, but rather a five-minute stroll. Mind you, it feels like rather more than that considering the blistering heat today. Lancashire must be feeling it too: there hasn’t yet been a chance today, and both Dominic Sibley and, especially, Rory Burns have scored freely. It threatens to be a long day for Lancashire braving the heat.

George Dobell at Leicestershire (238) v Essex (68-5).
Jesse Ryder’s days at Essex would appear to be over. He’s been allowed to go back to New Zealand in the knowledge that he wasn’t going to play in the Championship team for the rest of the season. He has been suffering with a calf injury. He is out of contract.
Signed as a batsman, he arguably played more of a part as a bowler. But the improved pitches this season have limited his effectiveness with the ball – he has taken just one Championship wicket this season – and, despite some good white ball innings, he has fallen a little out of favour. He finishes with a first-class batting average of 36.53 and a first-class bowling average of 24.71 in three season at the club.
Klein has taken another wicket here. Westley, having battled hard, attempted a hook only to top-edge to deep square leg. Bopara was bowled by one that nipped back. Leicestershire on top and with promotion hopes very much alive.
