His overall numbers are tarnished by him batting at 7 and 8 but the problem is they don't get much better when higher up. He is only 25. I do wonder if this is my insular behaviour from England, they should have had Duckett or Billings play until Stokes was fit to bowl

Stokes' ODI and T20I records are surprisingly poor. I am surprised they haven't really come under closer examination

tbf batting averages in ODIs (unless batting in top 4) are essentially completely meaningless without a significant amount of analysis, given how often lower order players have to be used as sloggers

True you can't judge much from averages, but I can't really remember him doing that much in the way of cameos with the bat in ODIs.

Richard Baker - Its Stokes, you don't question Stokes. He is like Buttler if you are in the media you say would would select Buttler for every Test/ODI/T20/Kick around in the park/Best man at your Wedding, The number don't matter. The lack of games DOESN'T MATTER, half fit DOESN'T MATTER, in another country DOESN'T MATTER, Your other half being more of a Bairstow or Woakes person D-O-E-S-N'T MATTER

Stokes at a wedding would get steaming drunk, put his first through the wedding cake, start a punch-up with the priest, and try to make out with the bride.

To be fair, I do think this is England's strongest XI (given Finn's form and Willey's fitness).
The problem is, the reason Stokes is in that strongest XI is that he brings the all-important balance of a sixth bowling option who can bat in the top 5. Which he isn't actually doing today. As a specialist bat in ODIs, Bairstow is a better option, as would be any number of youngsters.
