Dread to think what we'll be like without Stoneman and possibly Borthwick
by Jack Taylor8/31/2016 1:01:58 PM
Just looking at the Yorkshire team, don't see Lyth or Lees going anywhere anytime soon. Ballance could become a test regular but couldn't not they will probably know by next season. Gale is at the age where he might retire soon. Leaning has had a really struggle this season in the CC and then its into the all rounders. So I could see them looking at a batting 'Domestic overseas'
by nickcricket8/31/2016 1:02:42 PM
point taken, Nick, but they still haven't gone down the presumably cheaper Kolpak option that a lot of Div two teams have exploited. I'm sure your average South African on a Kolpak deal would be cheaper than a English County pro, otherwise why would teams like Northants who are also cash strapped have so heavily explored the option?

Keep up the good work, Culley. Need both Middlesex and Yorkshire to lose.

@JackTaylor, you think Durham are safe yet, or still got a chance to be pulled into the relegation scrap proper?
by dave8/31/2016 1:05:26 PM
@nickcricket word is young Lehmann has been approached about filling the overseas spot in all formats next year.

Just another two wickets before the Yorkshire innings proper starts...
by StaggerBreaths8/31/2016 1:08:22 PM
dave - I guess a Kolpak is cheaper than above average English player but more expensive than a young player but without the ECB payments. Yorkshire were in such trouble that they had no option but to back the young players and it worked because those young players were Root, Bairstow and Ballance
by nickcricket8/31/2016 1:08:31 PM
Believe it or not but that is an above average score for Gale this season
by nickcricket8/31/2016 1:08:55 PM
@dave Given our form in the last couple of games, I think we could yet be pulled in. A lot depends on this game - if we win, we're safe I reckon
by Jack Taylor8/31/2016 1:10:12 PM
@Jack, i think this game hinges on whether Colly can get up off the deck. He's taken one in the unmentionables apparently. 5 down now is a disaster, to effectively be 6 down would be calamitous.
