Jon Culley at Warwickshire v Middlesex 19-2
I have recovered enough from climbing eight flights of stairs with two heavy bags (lift out of order) and then discovering I'd left my phone in the car to be able to tell you that Middlesex have started none too well here, losing Sam Robson to the third ball of the match when he played defensively at a ball from Chris Wright and edged to first slip and in the sixth over, perhaps critically, Nick Gubbins, who fell victim to a very good low catch in his follow-through by Wright. Gubbins waited for the umpires to confer before leaving the crease, plainly querying whether the ball carried, although it looked clean enough. It was six for two at that point.
Middlesex have picked two spinners - as have Warwickshire for that matter - with Ravi Patel selected for the first time this season, although they are a little short on fit and available personnel anyway, with Steven Finn injured, Adam Voges unable to return as overseas player, George Bailey back with Australia and both Paul Stirling and Tim Murtagh required by Ireland. Robson is back after a month out with injury. James Fuller was in the squad, however, but Patel preferred.
Warwickshire picked Josh Poysden, the leg-spinner, in preference to another seamer and have Alex Mellor keeping wicket in place of Tim Ambrose, having appeared as a substitute behind the stumps in Warwickshire's Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final after Ambrose was injured while batting. This is Mellor's full debut in senior cricket for Warwickshire in any competition, although he has played for Derbyshire on loan.

For those asking (specifically StaggerBreaths), Adam Voges has a "minor hamstring injury" following Australia's tour of Sri Lanka and was denied permission to return to Middlesex by Cricket Australia, who want him to rest.
