This would be a monumental victory for Middlesex. How much were the odds at the beginning of the day?

Haystack_Jnr - Bairstow did rain himself in on the trip to the UAE with a SR of 37.11 but it also didn't score many runs, he is always going to attack but hopefully it will be positive rather than brainless. Stokes is very much in the latter category and a good team can't have too many of those guys

INDIVIDUAL 50: MA Carberry 50* (97) Hampshire 159/3 (62.3 ov, lead by 210 - 2nd inns) v Durham

Carberry reaches fifty for just the second time this season. Ends a run of ten innings without a fifty.

The Results are in Cook (Block), Hales (Attack but don't get out), Vince (Drive Everything), Root (Bradman till 70-90 runs) Bairstow (attack if wearing gloves, Semi Attack if not), Stokes (No instructions will be listened to) Buttler (Attack), Moeen (Attack) Woakes (Play like a top order player should) Broad (Ultra attack) Anderson (Hopefully declare before then)

Stokes is always a big risk, but his bowling is decent enough to warrant his place. I don't think it's worth playing him as a batsmen only. If they want him to get a bit of time in the middle, let him play for Durham.

I wish Gale had score two fifties this season. Or, even one...

The Bolton Blocker will block no more
by Haystack_Jnr7/6/2016 1:57:53 PM
I wouldn't play Stokes as a pure Batsmen, It wouldn't surprise me if England do and he will probably smash a century after a top order collapse
As this is the last blog before the squad is announced I would go for Cook (C), Hales, Borthwick, Root, Vince, Bairstow (WK), Moeen, Woakes, Broad, Finn, Anderson, Ball (maybe Rashid if being there won't mean he missing a Yorkshire match in case England want two spinners)

Damn the Mike Denness Challenge Shield slips from our grasp once again

I still don't like Vince (for England)
by Richard Baker7/6/2016 2:01:53 PM
Richard Baker - I am a bit dubious but no player should feel they will only get 4 innings to prove themselves
by nickcricket7/6/2016 2:02:42 PM
I agree, I am not a Vince fan and since Borthwick has touted for England, he has failed in every innings. Bring Hildreth in.
