I wonder if Leicestershire have any deckchairs of promise that could be persuaded?

When I grow up I want to be George Dobell
by wacolwell9/7/2016 9:17:34 AM
...alternatively I might go quiet today because I've got some urgent work to do...
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2016 9:18:18 AM
Tucked away in that Dobell article, high praise for TV: (on S Patel) "He is not a left-arm spinner in the class of Jack Leach, who might just be the best available right now"

Ned Eckersley having a decent season...more generally doesn't look like Notts will be able to offer first division cricket next year so a few players who might be looking to make a move just to further England ambitions would be looking elsewhere although money may talk.
Enjoyed reading the morning reports. As much as the ECB reporters network is a nice resource to have, it is night and day the difference between those reports and those by journalists who are actually allowed to have opinions and do original research. Thank you to the powers that be for continuing to fund the brilliant reporters we have on the site...

"Coaches Trevor Bayliss — one of four selectors — and Paul Farbrace like the idea of playing Buttler as a batsman because of his counter-attacking ability. But they may face opposition from the other selectors — James Whitaker, Mick Newell and Angus Fraser — who are less inclined to take risks" Think Yorkshire need to look beyond Farbrace
by nickcricket9/7/2016 9:25:03 AM
What counterattacking ability? When has he shown that in red-ball?
by StaggerBreaths9/7/2016 9:26:04 AM
Maybe England wouldn't need to counter-attack if they had a decent Middle order, and where is Buttler going to bat? At 5? Because there is no point having him "Counter-Attack" At 9 with Stuart Broad missing the first straight ball after the bouncer
by nickcricket9/7/2016 9:26:42 AM
He did a few times for Somerset in fairness. Not enough, but I remember one magnificent innings when he walked in at 20/4 or similar and hit his first ball for six on his way to a big score. Buttler as a batsman is a potential pick, not unlike the much vaunted Tres/Vaughan picks that Fletcher made. It wouldn't be the way I'd go, but if they can turn Buttler into a test player then it'll sure help the ticket sales!

Hello, hello! What a day of cricket to look for ahead. Just a quick reminder, if you havent read Durham vs Yorks report by Hopps, please do. Just excellent!!

Those in the know seem to be suggesting the winter test tour squad is the usual faces plus Buttler, Hameed and Dawson as third spinner. Bayliss seems to set a lot of store by character, rather than sheer weight of county performances, doesn't he?
by NemoUKS9/7/2016 9:29:02 AM
Proceedings about to start at Nottingham, overcast conditions and the pitch still has something for the bowlers in it.
by Aneesh Kumar9/7/2016 9:29:16 AM
Everyone focusing on Buttler not being good enough but let's face the reality - who else is there? Vince has been given a chance and looks short of quality. The jury is very much still out on Ballance. Very few other genuine middle order batsmen in county cricket sticking their hand up and at least Buttler has proved in international cricket (granted white ball) that he can handle world class bowling and do so under pressure.

How about Hameed opening & Hales to bat middle order ?
by stevew1259/7/2016 9:30:12 AM
NemoUKS - He is the exact reverse of the old England selectors who put Test performances above anything else when selecting a ODI team
