Tim Wigmore at Northants 215-1 v Kent
Ben Duckett has just been described as a ‘promising youngster’ at Beckenham. He is already rather more than that: a brilliant player in all three formats of the game. Here he has just reached his second consecutive Championship hundred, off 149 balls: a comparatively sedate innings given the pyrotechnics he is capable of. But it rather feels as if Duckett has done a deal with himself: after reaching three figures, he could unleash his full range of shots on Kent. That he has already done in a mesmerising 15 minutes since he brought up his hundred: Viljoen was scythed both sides of mid-off in consecutive balls, Duckett showing off the dexterity of his wrists, and then Tredwell was reverse-pulled - there is no better word - for a four, then pulled conventionally for another boundary the following ball.
